Texas Oncology’s implementation of patient management digital solutions to reduce trips to the emergency department (ED) was associate with an 8% hospital avoidance for symptom-related incidents. The research findings were presented at the 2021 American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) Annual Meeting.
The primary data of using Navigating Cancer’s digital solutions suggests that managing symptoms earlier will lower overall ED visits and hospitalizations. The pre-implementation call-back times started at 3.2 hours for all incidents and was reduced to 2.2 hours once the electronic dashboard was implemented. Furthermore, the symptom-related incidents decreased from 2.3 hours to 1.5 hours emphasizing the importance of patient management digital solutions.
“We hope that this has significant effects on reducing our hospitalization and ED visits for our patient population by simply taking care of them quickly, and answering the phone, and resolving their calls in a timely fashion,” said Lalan Wilfong, M.D.
