Some of us have dedicated our careers to the cancer field, some of us have dedicated our careers to helping people use technology to improve their lives and some of us just like helping people. We’re really proud of our work and our team here at Navigating Cancer.
Meet Amanda Drasnin, a full-stack engineer on our business intelligence team:
Briefly describe your role.
I’m a full-stack software engineer on the business intelligence team. My team is responsible for generating reports for clinics to track their performance against various care standards so they can improve the quality of care they provide to patients.
Where do you find inspiration?
I find inspiration in my coworkers and am continually impressed by all they know about health care, oncology, and technology. I love that the engineering team has a lot of autonomy to plan lunchtime learning sessions, tech talks, and book clubs.
What’s one of your favorite technologies?
I love Google Maps. It’s so cool to be in a foreign country and easily be able to find where you’re going and how to get there.
Do you have a go to app?
Facebook Messenger! It’s a great way to stay in touch with friends, it’s cross-platform, it supports video calls and so much more. You don’t even need a Facebook account.
Star Trek or Star Wars?
Ooh, that’s a tough one. I love both! I’ll keep my preference to myself so I don’t incur the wrath of any friends or family.
What’s your favorite thing to do when you’re not at work?
I love kayaking and paddle boarding in the summer and exploring different cafes during Seattle’s nine months of darkness.
Little-known fact about you that would surprise people?
I memorized the NATO phonetic alphabet so I could stop telling people my last name starts with “D, as in dog…” (though I do love dogs, especially dachshunds).
