A recent article from Advisory Board confirms what we’ve been advocating at Navigating Cancer for a while now: remote symptom monitoring is essential for improved patient outcomes. Symptom and side effect management can help reduce costs, improve quality of life, and help patients live longer.
Advisory Board cites a recent study from France that supports this idea. The study looked at overall survival for lung cancer patients receiving standard follow-up care after initial treatment compared with those who used a web-based symptom monitoring program. At the end of the two-year follow up period, the symptom monitoring group had a 51% increase in median overall survival compared with the control group. Interim analyses showed relapse detection 5 weeks earlier on average as well as improved quality of life scores for the symptom monitoring group compared with the control group.
These findings corroborate the results of the landmark study conducted by Memorial Sloan Kettering in 2016. That study also looked at patients using a web-based platform for symptom management and showed a 20% increase in overall survival, 17% fewer ED visits, and 8% fewer hospitalizations over one year.
These studies reinforce the significant impact a remote patient monitoring platform can have for cancer patients. The benefits of implementing a patient monitoring tool clearly outweigh the initial technology investment for the oncology practice and ongoing maintenance necessary from practice staff.
Navigating Cancer has a comprehensive solution
At Navigating Cancer, our patient relationship management (PRM) platform is designed to help improve patient-provider interactions and deliver results. From education and resources, through patient reported outcomes, digital assessments, medication and symptom check ins and more, Navigating Cancer is focused on helping patients and providers.
Health Tracker is our remote patient monitoring tool that allows patients to stay connected to their care team between appointments. Patients will answer simple questions about medication adherence and/or side effect symptoms on a schedule set with their care team. Through these patient reported outcomes and our care management solution, patients are prioritized according to need and urgency for faster response and interventions.
We have proven results that our patient relationship management solution can help reduce costs by preventing unnecessary hospitalizations, help increase patient time on therapy and overall survival rates, and provide shared-savings opportunities for providers.
Working with Navigating Cancer means our skilled team will collaborate with your practice to find the best way to implement the tools within our PRM solution. We’ll provide training to ensure your practice and your patients have a positive experience during implementation and beyond.
